"Mahi Vey"

The new superstar of Indian Cricket, M S Dhoni is known as Mahi to his family and friends. His rise to the top has been amazing. Being a Ranchiite and also closely associated with Ranchi Cricket, I have followed his career with admiration and a lot of interest. He first came to limelight as a student of DAV jawahar Vidya Mandir when he scored a double century in a 30 over Inter-School match. My close friend, Prof. Arun Thakur was the Chief Selector for the district team. I remember speaking to him about Mahi and although he agreed with me that such talent must be encouraged, there were technical difficulties in selecting him for the district team as he had not played in any A division match. He, however somehow convinced everyoneelse and rest is history.
Mahi is probably the most powerful hitter of the cricket ball in world cricket today. Purists might say that technically he is not very sound and he is still to prove himself against genuinely fast and swing bowling. What he lacks in technique, he more than compensates for , with his inner strenth and a sound cricketing head.
What has really impressed me is the improvement he has shown in wicket keeping. There was a time not long ago when we,his wellwishers, used to worry about his future in the indian team esp. with Kartick doing well as an opener. He has now left all others behind.
One thing that really makes him very popular is his "BOY NEXT DOOR" image. Success has not spoilt him. He remains the same old Mahi we all knew and loved. One thing he must be missing a lot these days is driving his now very popular Bike to Ormanjhi with his childhood friends and brother-in-law, Gautam for dinner.
